March 2025

Dear Colleagues,

Here is some information we thought was important to share with you! Enjoy reading ... and if you have not already done so, please consider renewing your membership in the Société de Biomécanique for 2025. In particular, you will benefit from a preferential rate for the annual SB Congress.

Marseille 2025You can now submit your abstract for our next annual meeting, to be held in Marseille, France, October 27-29, 2025. Please note that the abstract submission deadline is April 6, 2025 (firm date). There will be no postponement. Don't hesitate to visit the congress website and watch the trailer, revealing the themes and highlights that await you!

Multidisciplinary Biomechanics Journal (MBJ). We are proud to announce the publication of the first volume of the "Multidisciplinary Biomechanics Journal" (MBJ), a diamond open access journal dedicated to the publication of papers from the annual meetings of the Société de Biomécanique. Hosted by Episciences, the first 123 articles of Volume 1 (2024) are now available online. Many thanks to all those who have contributed to this exciting scientific initiative!

Sponsored events. As part of its outreach policy, the Société de Biomécanique sponsors a number of scientific events proposed by its active members. This is the case this year for the NBD Day organized by LAMIH on April 9, 2025 in Valenciennes. The aim of this day is to introduce biomechanics to the general public and in particular to young secondary school students. EPF (Campus of Paris-Cachan) will also open the doors of its motion analysis laboratory, the 3D MotionLab, to demonstrate how it's possible to capture and analyze gestures using cutting-edge technology.

SB has also decided to sponsor the BONITOS 2025 event, organized jointly by members of the Camille Jordan Institute in Lyon, Inserm U1033 and the City University of New York. The event will be held on June 13, 2025.

Articles about the pioneers of biomechanics. For several years, the Société de Biomécanique has published articles dedicated to the great pioneers of our science. The latest article (in French), written by Bernard Devauchelle, examines the history of the restoration of disfigured faces, particularly after the First World War, and highlights the importance of artists and sculptors in the creation of facial prostheses for the wounded.

BlogOn our blog (in French), you'll find a link to a remarkable video that accompanies this fascinating article by Bernard Devauchelle on the creation of facial prostheses for the wounded, by the sculptor Anna Coleman Ladd and her assistants.

And if you'd like to know more about wheelchair fencing, a Paralympic discipline where precision and biomechanics are at the heart of performance, we invite you to read Antoine Raud's article on "Kinematics of the scapula and clavicle".
