As an Assistant Professor in Transport Safety, Biomechanics of Injury and Simulations you will actively collaborate with fellow researchers to contribute to the research strategy and activities within the centre and the transport safety and simulations research group.

The Role
The Transport Safety and Simulations research group addresses future mobility safety challenges, from e-scooters, through autonomous vehicles to eVTOL aircraft, considering vulnerable road users (VRU), occupants, Advanced Driver assistance (ADAS) and vehicle structures. Our team consists of scientists with strong theoretical engineering, medical knowledge and industrial experience. In this role, you will focus on modelling and assessing human chances of survival in traffic collisions and studying the human safety and crashworthiness responses in future micro-mobility and connected autonomous vehicles (CAV). You will also be responsible for investigating design and legislative changes yielding to safer transport, and research opportunities to cascade research findings to a global level to support ‘vision zero’. For the academic aspect of the role, up to 40% of the role will be teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students within the field, and contributing to teaching and learning across the group by being responsible for development and delivery of teaching. To ensure that students have an effective learning experience by providing quality academic guidance and advice and where appropriate reflect critically on teaching practice, implement improvements, disseminate good practice, contribute to quality monitoring and professional accreditation process.

Qualifications Required
A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of research (or relevant discipline).

Person Specification
You will have an internationally recognised research profile in line with the centres discipline and
properties, with an outstanding record of producing recognised research outputs. The ability to seek
research funding and to deliver projects, while seeking out to establish relevant networks to the centre’s strategy. The ability to inform and influence Industry, Business, health services and policy makers. Have experience supervising research at postgraduate level and have experience of successful teaching practice with evidence from documented relevant quality assurance mechanisms.
A willingness to undertake academic activities in the evening when necessary and participate in
occasional weekend activities such as recruitment days. The role will require local, national and where appropriate international travel to undertake academic activity
