Dear colleagues, To get your summer off to a great start, here is the Société de Biomécanique's Awards and Scholarships Class of 2023:
| Société de Biomécanique Awards and Scholarships. The prestigious Christian Oddou Prize, given to senior researchers who have contributed significantly to biomechanics throughout their careers, is awarded to Franck Nicoud, Professor at the University of Montpellier (member of the IUF), who specializes in the study of blood flow using numerical simulation techniques. Well done to him! Congratulations to Fanette Chassagne, winner of this year's SB Young Investigator Award! She is Assistant Professor at the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering in the Soft Tissue BIOmechanics (STBio) department. Congratulations to Morgane Garreau, currently a postdoctoral researcher at the INRIA Saclay, who has been selected for the SB PhD award! Her thesis, entitled "Hemodynamic simulations for MRI: quality control, optimization and integration into clinical practice" (an English summary of the thesis is available here), was carried out at the University of Montpellier under the supervision of Franck Nicoud and Simon Mendez. Congratulations also to Jean-Romain Riviere, this year's winner of the Jean Vivès award, granted to a young researcher working in the field of sports biomechanics! Currently a research engineer at the MIP Laboratory, Le Mans University, he is particularly interested in the evaluation of maximum strength and endurance capacities in athletes. This award is supported by the French National Olympic Academy (Académie Nationale Olympique Française - ANOF) and Editions EP&S. Congratulations also to Pierre-Yves Rohan (IBHGC), winner of the Master grant!
Finally, congratulations to Carla Cornillon (IBHGC), Marianne Guesneau (LBA), Caio De Oliveira (LEM3), Thomas Desousa (LIBM/UCBL), Antoine Raud (IBHGC/CERAH/EPF), Lise Valtaud (URB2I) and Erwan Beurienne (LBA), this year's winners of the Congress Grant!
All winners will present their work at the 49th congress of the Société de Biomécanique in Compiègne.

| Compiègne 2024. If you want to register for the Compiègne Congress at a special rate, don't forget the July 14th deadline! It's fast approaching... We would also like to remind you that due to the organization of another event in Compiègne on the same dates, you are strongly encouraged to book your hotel as soon as possible, as the supply is limited.
In addition, the Société de Biomécanique has set up a mentoring program for young members of the society attending the annual conference. This program, inspired by what is done in other societies (ESB, ESMAC, ISPGR...), offers young members the opportunity to meet and consult with senior members during a dedicated time at the conference. For mentors, it's a chance to share experiences and ideas, and to discover the next generation of researchers. It can also mean new perspectives for mentors and mentees and informal relationships for years to come. In recent years, the program has tended to focus on PhD students, but this year it will also be open to postdocs and young researchers who express a need or desire to participate. Interested parties (mentors and mentees) must register for the program before September 15 by sending an e-mail to mentorat_SB@biomecanique.org. For mentees, please also attach an application form (available here).

| Partial renewal of the Board of Directors. This year 3 classic (2 outgoing members and 1 new seat) are up for election on the Société de Biomécanique's Board of Directors. Board members have a considerable influence on the Society's activities and development, as they are its decision-making body. Any paid-up member of the Société de Biomécanique is eligible to stand for election. Don't hesitate to contact our president (president_SB@biomecanique.org) to discuss vacancies and the workings of the Board of Directors. The deadline for nominations is September 30, 2024. |

| “Pioneers of Biomechanics”, new article online. Chapter 19 of "Pioneers of Biomechanics", entitled "Cardiovascular biomechanics from ancient to modern times", written by Damien Garcia (DR at CRéatis; Inserm), is now online. It reviews the history of cardiovascular biomechanics through the era of dissection, the contribution of microscopy and the modern era with mathematical and mechanical models, while introducing or rediscovering the great names in this field of biomechanics. |
